Trudi Baldwin (Program Director)
Trudi Baldwin developed and is the academic director of the Master of Science programs in Strategic Communications and Communications Practice at Columbia University. She is responsible for curriculum development, faculty recruitment and student advising. With more than 370 graduates bringing strategic communications to the workplace, the programs have earned a strong reputation.
Baldwin also developed and manages a two-week executive education program bringing corporate communications executives from around the world to share best practices and learn from Columbia faculty and senior practicing professionals.
Previously, Baldwin also served as director of communications for Columbia’s School of Continuing Education, responsible for its advertising, promotion, publications and web communications, and student information center.
From 1998-2000, Baldwin served at the New York affiliate of Volunteers of America directing internal and external communication, including media relations, advertising, and strategic planning. She supervised an extensive volunteer program, developed speeches, op-eds and presentations to inform and educate the public on homelessness and volunteerism. For the ten years prior, Baldwin brought national attention to Victim Services (since renamed Safe Horizon) - the largest victim assistance organization in the country - and advanced discussion of a wide range of issues from domestic violence to immigrant rights. As a member of the organization’s senior staff, she was instrumental in forming policy and developing a strategic vision.
Baldwin began her career in advertising and has produced corporate films and industrial shows, public service announcements for television and radio, award-winning short dramatic films and national training videos on victimization for law enforcement personnel and clinicians.
Baldwin was educated in England, receiving a Higher National Diploma in Business Studies from what is now the University of Gloucestershire. She is a member of International Public Relations Association, International Association of Business Communicators, Public Relations Society of America, and New York Women in Communications.
