David Ulmer Biography

David Ulmer is senior vice president and CTO of Sotheby’s Holding, Inc. Sotheby’s is a leading auction house with operations in 34 countries with aggregate sales of $2.7 billion. He is responsible for the global IT organization, which includes application development, technical infrastructure, operations, change management, and end-user services. He has extensive experience in ERP (SAP) and Web development. Prior to his current position, Ulmer was CIO responsible for the Sothebys.com IT organization, which built and supported the company's e-commerce business. Before joining Sotheby's, David worked for Pillsbury/Häagen-Dazs and Bristol-Myers Squibb/Clairol, in various management and analyst roles in IT. He started his career as a chemist at Clairol. Ulmer holds a B.S. in chemistry. He also holds an M.B.A. from the University of Connecticut and two M.S. degrees in information systems and computer science from Polytechnic University. He holds a Ph.D. in computing from Pace University.
