Chris Scalet Biography

J. Chris Scalet is senior vice president, information services, and CIO, Merck & Co., Inc. He is responsible for all areas of information technology and services at Merck, including application development, technical support, voice and data communications, and computer operations worldwide for all segments of the Company. Prior to joining Merck, Scalet served as senior vice president, information technology and CIO at International Paper, where he was responsible for information technology strategy and planning, including all data center operations, applications development and support, and telecommunications worldwide. Scalet served as a member of the senior leadership team. He also participated as a member of the e-business steering committee, and board member of ForestExpress.com, the industry marketplace/exchange initiated jointly between International Paper and two industry companies. He managed a staff of over 2000 IT professionals and was responsible for development centers in Memphis; Cincinnati; Dallas; Manchester, England; and Brussels and for data centers in Memphis and Manchester, England. Scalet holds a B.S. in management science and computer systems from Oklahoma State University.
