Globally there is an increasing demand for skilled and experienced professionals who can manage the development and deployment of technology across a broad spectrum of industries and who can leverage technology to improve core business performance.
Columbia University’s Executive M.S. in Technology Management prepares senior IT professionals in any field or industry for executive positions by approaching technology from a business perspective, emphasizing the strategic issues that confront senior executives today.
Residency Options in Paris and New York City
The intense 16-month executive format program is framed by five residencies, which students choose to take either in Paris at Columbia Global Centers | Europe or on Columbia’s campus in New York City. For one residency apiece, each group of students travels overseas to unite with the other group.
Outside of the residencies, students complete classes online through a highly interactive distance learning platform that allows them to communicate and collaborate with each other and faculty through a unique social networking interface.
The program teaches students to evaluate the benefits of emerging technologies and apply them strategically in the business environment to improve core business performance. Classroom teaching incorporates students’ relevant work experience, and instruction is enhanced by relationships with industry mentors, a unique and critical component of the program.
One-on-One Executive Mentoring
One of the unique ways the program prepares students for the challenges of technology leadership is through extensive, one-on-one, structured mentoring from an accomplished technology leader. Beginning in the second term, executive mentoring matches each student with a seasoned executive best suited to provide informed, individualized guidance for developing a master’s project idea into a complete, portable asset that can move any career forward. Typically students are selected by a mentor based on his or her interest in, or experience with, the topic, industry, or challenge proposed in their master’s project. The master’s project is developed over the duration of the program and is supported by monthly full-day executive seminars that take place on residential Saturdays. After each executive seminar, the student and mentor meet to review and discuss the project’s progress, address logistical business concerns, and develop presentation strategies.
“Since completing the Executive M.S. in Technology Management program, I have experienced a marked increase in global responsibility. I currently lead a team responsible for delivering critical risk technology initiatives across global banking and markets. The program has instilled a high degree of confidence that is derived from its diverse course offerings, experiences from world-class professors and instructors, as well as from the high-caliber one-on-one mentorship.”Shawn Milligan

Who Should Apply
The program provides an intensive graduate education for motivated candidates who have already demonstrated professional accomplishment. The ideal candidate has a minimum of ten years’ experience in professional roles using technology to further business goals, with a résumé demonstrating a strong record of professional achievement and clear leadership potential. Diverse industries and specializations are represented in every incoming class. Students are admitted as part of a cohort that moves through each phase of the program together, learning from each other as much as from faculty, mentors and guest lecturers.
