Registration
Registration Procedures
Columbia University Students
(except Barnard College and Teachers College students)
Columbia students may register online from April 5 through April 9, and during the regular registration dates for the D and Q sessions (see Calendars). Students admitted to the University for the upcoming fall term should obtain program approval from the dean of students of their school or division and then submit the Add/Drop Form to the Office of the Summer Term, 303 Lewisohn.
Barnard College Students
Barnard College students should go to the Office of the Summer Term, 303 Lewisohn Hall, with a completed Add/Drop Form to register for classes. Barnard students are not required to have the signature of their dean or adviser to register. Students should check with their advisers before registering to find out whether or not a course will fulfill a degree requirement. Registration is April 5 through April 9 and during the regular registration dates for the D and Q sessions (see Calendars).
Teachers College Students
Register at Teachers College during the registration periods established by the Teachers College Office of the Registrar.
University Holidays
Please note that the University will be closed on the following dates:
- Monday, May 31, Memorial Day holiday
- Monday, July 5, Independence Day holiday
Late Registration
Late registration takes place on the second, third, and fourth days of each session. For some courses permission of the instructor may be required. A $50.00 fee will be charged for late registration.
Change of Program
Once registered, students may change their program free of charge on the second, third, and fourth days of each session. Permission of the instructor is required for admission to a class after the fourth day of the session and the classes missed are counted as unexcused absences. See Calendars for change-of-program periods for the various sessions.
Students who wish to add or drop a course must submit a Registration & Add/Drop form to 303 Lewisohn Hall. To make any change in their academic programs, Columbia and Barnard students should consult with their academic adviser. Please note that there is no refund of tuition for individual courses dropped after the last day of late registration unless you withdraw from the Summer Term.
Students who wish to drop their entire course load should read the information and instructions under Withdrawal.
Students may not drop a course after two-thirds of the class meetings have been held. A mark—either a UW (unofficial withdrawal), or a grade averaging uncompleted work (as F) with grades received on completed work—will be assigned to any student who has not dropped the course before the designated date for the session (see Calendars).
