After Registration
Pay Tuition and Fees
Columbia bills students for tuition, fees, and other charges at the beginning of each term. The Student Account Statement is distributed electronically via email notification to a student's Columbia University email account. No paper bills will be mailed by the University. See Payment Procedures for billing schedule.
Columbia University reserves the right to withhold the privilege of registration, or any other University privilege, from any person with unpaid debt to the University.

Students may obtain Columbia ID cards after completing the registration process. Anyone obtaining an ID card for the first time must show a valid U.S. ID or passport. ID cards are required for use of the libraries and facilities of the University. ID cards may be needed for evening entrance to some campus buildings.
Columbia University ID cards also provide free admittance to many museums in New York City and discounts on purchases in many local stores.
E-mail Accounts
Official Columbia University e-mail addresses are provided for all students so that the University and School can send official communications to students, including tuition bills. For this reason, students are required to activate their e-mail accounts as soon as possible after registration. A student's University e-mail address is based on the University Network ID (UNI) assigned to the student. Student account information, including monthly billing statements, is available online only and through a student's University e-mail account.
Each registered student is required to open an account and to check for e-mail regularly.
Students are required to use a Columbia UNI to access the University's electronic services such as e-mail from instructors and campus offices; CourseWorks@Columbia, the online site used by many instructors for posting electronic course materials and class discussion boards and chat rooms; forms for submitting electronic evaluations of courses and instructors; dialup networking; and billing status, course information, and final grades. Extended computer accounts, usually needed only for courses in such disciplines as computer science, are available for a fee.
