Students with little or no experience in computer programming are introduced to elementary programming concepts within the realm of Web site design. The course begins with a brief overview of computer organization, the Internet, and the World Wide Web. Early on students learn to use XHTML, cascading style sheets, and Adobe Photoshop to create their own Web site and then are introduced to such concepts as control structures, functions, objects, and arrays through the Javascript scripting language, one of the most popular software development languages for Web-based applications. Daily assignments challenge students to exhibit their creativity and logic skills by designing a functional Web site, creating simple games, and solving puzzles. Students emerge from the course with knowledge of key programming concepts and having created an impressive Web site.
