Time Commitment

The part-time graduate program is designed to accommodate the professional obligations of students who are employed full-time. However, this is a rigorous and concentrated part-time program that demands a serious commitment of time and energy. Students are expected to devote significant time to completing reading assignments, class assignments, and term projects outside of class.

It is inadvisable for students to apply for this program if they know in advance that they will miss class meetings.

Program Length

Students who successfully complete the maximum number of courses per term (usually two) can expect to graduate in six or seven terms. Students are generally advised to enroll in one course per term during periods of intense professional obligation. Not all classes are offered every term.

Class Meetings

During the academic year, most courses are 14 weeks long, meeting once a week on weekday evenings, from 6:10 to 8:00 PM. Some academic-year and all summer courses are on intensive nine-week schedules that require three-hour class meetings once a week on weekday evenings, from 6:10 to 9:00 PM.

Work Outside of Class

Students should be prepared to spend 6 to 10 hours outside of class every week for each course in order to complete assigned readings, work on projects, and participate in meetings with work groups.

Seminars

Degree candidates are required to attend a minimum of two seminars per semester. Seminars are offered on campus on select Saturdays, from 11:00 AM to 5:00 PM, or include morning visits to New York City firms.

Administrative Obligations

Students are advised that office hours for the central University administrative offices (bursar, registrar, ID office, etc.) are 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM, Monday through Friday, with extended evening hours during registration periods only.

Administrative tasks that need to be completed during the term must be handled during normal business hours. Part-time master's degree students should plan accordingly.
