Degree Requirements
In order to receive the master's degree in Sports Management, students must complete all requirements of the degree within three years (six terms, excluding summer) with an overall grade point average of 3.0 (B) or better.
The 36-point program is composed of 12 3-point courses.
Introductory Course (one course, three points)
Required:
- SPRT K4220. Social-Historical Foundations of American Sport. 3 pts.
Accounting/Finance Sequence (three courses, nine points)
- BUSI K4009. Financial Accounting. 3 pts.
- BUSI K4003. Corporate Finance. 3 pts.
- SPRT K4360. Sports Accounting and Finance. 3 pts.
Marketing Sequence (two courses, six points)
Required:
- BUSI K4020. Introduction to Marketing/Marketing Management. 3 pts.
Choose one from:
- SPRT K4550. Sports Marketing, Sponsorship, and Sales. 3 pts.
- SPRT K4560. Sports Media Marketing. 3 pts.
- SPRT K4570. Sports Business Communications and Public Relations. 3 pts.
Core Courses (three courses, nine points)
Required:
- SPRT K4410. Leadership and Personnel Management in the Sports Industry. 3 pts.
Choose two from:
- SPRT K4460. Sports Law and Ethics. 3 pts.
- SPRT K4620. Sport Facility and Event Management. 3 pts.
- SPRT K4740. Intercollegiate Athletics Administration. 3 pts.
Seminar (one course, three points)
Choose from:
- SPRT K5150. Seminar in Sports Business. 3 pts.
- SPRT K5160. Seminar in Sports Media. 3 pts.
Project Requirement (one course, three points)
- SPRT K4980. Internship in Sports Management. 3 pts.
- SPRT K4990. Supervised Project in Sports Management. 3 pts.
Elective
- Choose one additional course from above, or approved elective.
Please note that students without sufficient background in accounting and finance may be asked to enroll in preparatory courses in accounting and/or finance before completing the finance sequence. Such introductory courses may consist of ECON W2261 Introduction to Accounting and Finance and/or BUSI K4001 Introduction to Finance.
