Leonard J. Hopper

Leonard J. Hopper, FASLA, is a former project administrator for site improvements for the New York City Housing Authority. Since the early 1980s, he has been developing concepts and design guidelines that associate site design with social concerns and resident security. These design efforts seek to integrate site design with complementary efforts to empower residents and improve their quality of life, both socially and economically. Hopper is an internationally recognized authority in urban housing and has lectured and been a guest critic throughout the United States. He has taught in Columbia University’s Urban Design and Urban Planning programs and is currently a faculty member at the City College of New York School of Architecture. Hopper served as national president of the American Society for Landscape Architects for 2000-2001 and as president of the Landscape Architecture Foundation for 2004-2005.
