How to Register
Fall and Spring
- Find registration dates on the calendar.
- Start in Lewisohn Hall, where you will fill out a Registration & Add/Drop form and meet with an adviser to receive program approval and registration materials.
- Register online during your assigned registration appointment times.
- Find registration dates on the calendar.
- Fill out a Registration & Add/Drop form.
- Register online during the early registration period or the regular registration periods.
Auditors
The general registration procedures outlined above apply. Registration dates can be found on the Auditing Program calendar.
Auditors should be aware of the following limitations:
- Students may register only for courses open to auditors, on a space-available basis.
- Students may register for no more than two auditable courses a term.
Summer
New Students
New students follow the procedure listed above under “Fall and Spring,” with the following exceptions:
- New students must submit their registration forms to 303 Lewisohn instead of registering online.
- For Summer Term visiting students (those enrolled in high school, undergraduate, or graduate programs elsewhere), registration materials are valid only for the summer term. Such students who wish to continue in the fall must apply to the School of Continuing Education (or other schools at Columbia) in the appropriate student category. For undergraduate and high school visiting students, there is a two-term limit.
Students enrolled in Columbia College, the School of General Studies, the Fu Foundation School of Engineering and Applied Science, the School of Continuing Education, and the Graduate School of Arts and Sciences follow the procedure listed above under “Fall and Spring,” except that they get program approval from their regular academic adviser in their home school before registration.
Barnard College students registering for Summer Term courses should do the following:
- Find registration dates on the calendar.
- Complete the Approval form available in the Office of the Registrar, 107 Milbank, and file it with the Barnard Registrar before enrolling. This will ensure that you receive Barnard credit for your Summer Term courses.
- Fill out a Registration & Add/Drop form.
- Take the form to the Columbia University Summer Term Office in 303 Lewisohn.
Teachers College students register at Teachers College for Summer Term courses, during the regular registration periods established by the Teachers College Office of the Registrar.
Auditors
No courses are available for auditing in the Summer Term.
