Michael Deane

Michael Deane is a LEED accredited professional, and vice president and chief sustainability officer at Turner Construction Company, the largest general builder in the United States. His responsibilities at Turner include developing and implementing sustainable policy and training, green project setup, operational oversight, sales and acting as liaison to the U.S. Green Building Council. Engineering News-Record identified Turner as the Top Green Contractor of 2007. Deane has over 20 years of construction project management experience in both the public and private sectors. He holds an M.S. in Historic Preservation from Columbia University and has considerable experience in the renovation of landmarked structures Deane is a founding board member of the New York Chapter of the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC), and served as board chair from November 2003 until January 2006. He served on the USGBC National Board of Directors from 2005 through 2008 and remains as an advisor to the New York Chapter. Deane writes and speaks frequently about sustainability and in particular the builder’s role in delivering green buildings. He currently teaches a course on sustainability at Columbia University.
