Trudi Baldwin (Program Director)
Trudi Baldwin developed, and is the academic director of, the Master of Science in Strategic Communications program at Columbia University. She is responsible for curriculum development, faculty recruitment, and student oversight. Launched in the fall of 2002, the program is now in its seventh year, having graduated more than 200 students, and with a current student body of 130. Baldwin also served as director of communications for Columbia’s School of Continuing Education, responsible for its advertising, promotion, publications, and Web communications, and overseeing the school’s student information center. From 1998 to 2000, Baldwin directed internal and external communications for the New York affiliate of Volunteers of America, including media relations, advertising, and strategic planning. She supervised an extensive volunteer program, developed speeches, op-eds, and presentations to inform and educate the public on homelessness and volunteerism. For the ten years prior, Baldwin brought national attention to Victim Services (since renamed Safe Horizon)—the largest victim assistance organization in the country—and advanced discussion of a wide range of issues from domestic violence to immigrant rights. As a member of the organization’s senior staff, she was instrumental in forming policy and developing a strategic vision. Baldwin began her career in advertising, has produced corporate films and industrial shows, public service announcements for television and radio, award-winning short dramatic films, and national training videos on victimization for law enforcement personnel and clinicians. Baldwin was educated in England, receiving a Higher National Diploma in Business Studies from what is now the University of Gloucestershire. She is a member of Public Relations Society of America and New York Women in Communications.
